Lash artists usually follow a natural progression in their lashing career. You learn the fundamentals of lashing like isolation, applying, etc. Once you master the fundamentals, you begin to learn tips and tricks to become more efficient at lashing. There are many obvious reasons to speed up, but are you even ready to take the next step?
Are You Actually Ready?
Before you start trying to speed up your times, it’s important to have your lashing fundamentals down. You should be able to perfectly isolate and apply lash extensions without any stickies (where the glue causes the natural lashes to stick together). A common thought is “if I speed up my times, I will be able to take more clients and make more money.” While it definitely is possible to take more clients and make more money, your long-term career as a lash artist will suffer if you aren’t doing things right. You will ruin the natural lashes of your clients (making it impossible to take them as a long-term client) and you will get a bad reputation for damaging client lashes.
The Benefits
Now we got the warning out of the way and understand the dangers of speeding up too fast, here are some of the benefits to speeding up your lash times.
Increased Productivity
By speeding up your times, you are able to take more clients and make more money. By reducing your fill times from 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour, you can increase your potential revenue by 50%!
Client Satisfaction
From our experience, the longer a client sits in the chair/bed the more uncomfortable the client becomes. We’ve all experienced when clients start getting antsy and move around in their chair and start sighing.
Less Client Irritation and Reactions
While the most important thing to ensure is that the eyes stay closed during the service, but the less time they spend in the chair, the less likely it is to irritate the client’s eyes as they are not exposed to the adhesive fumes as long.
Tips and Tricks
Here are the ways you can speed up your times by 15 or maybe even 30 minutes!
Lash Retention
Always work on your fundamental lash skills to have better retention. While you still have to take off the outgrown lashes and replace the lashes that have fallen out, the more lashes that retain, the less work you need to do for your fills.
Setting Up Your Station for Success
Organizing and setting up your station is the key to being efficient. Here is a list of things you can do to improve your efficiency.
- Have a lash tile for each curl and diameter type
- Have multiple sets of tweezers so you can let one pair of tweezers sanitize while you use the other tweezers.
- Always have extra of all supplies, so you never have to scramble for more.
Time Yourself
Set up a clock that is easy to see from your station, so you can stay accountable and track your lash timing. You can even set up a timer to go off every 15 minutes to see how much work you’ve done in that time.
