Have you seen an Instagram Post of beautiful lashes and you decide you want to book an appointment and the caption says “Wispy Lashes.” So you call and try to book an appointment and then they start talking to you about all these different things like lash sets, styles, etc. It is confusing for our clients so here we discuss the differences between what a lash set is versus a lash style.
Lash Sets
Eyelash extension sets refer to the lash application technique used which determines the density of the lashes. This is usually how most lash artists and salons set their prices due to material costs and techniques involved.
Classic
In this application technique, the lash artist applies one extension to each natural lash. This means that the set will be the fullness of your natural lashes. However, you will probably have a darker lash line since the extensions are usually thicker than your natural lashes.
Hybrid
This set is a combination of classic lash extensions + volume fans. Most hybrid sets are 50% classic extensions and 50% volume fans. This is creates the perfect “in between” fullness. Lash artists are able to play around with the proportions between classic and volume fans to create your desired fullness.
Volume
This application consists of creating a volume “fan” which consists of 3-5 very thin extensions that are fanned out to create fullness. This allows even those with sparse lashes to maximize the fullness of extensions.
Angel
This set combines the application techniques of classic, while using volume “spikes”. Volume spikes are 3-5 very thin extensions that are not fanned out. This allows the lash line to be thicker compared to classic extensions.
Mega
This set is similar to volume application, however each fan consists of 10+ extensions that are thinner than volume extensions that are fanned out. This creates a very dramatic full look.
Lash Styles
Eyelash extension style refers to the length, shape, and curl of the extensions that the lash artist uses. You can use different combinations throughout the eye to get the specific lash style you’re looking for!
Doll-Eye
This style focuses the longest length towards the middle of the eye. This opens up the eye, mimicking a “doll-eye” look.
Cat-Eye
The longest length is focused towards the outer corner of the eye, pulling the eyes outwards & upwards — giving it that cat-eye liner effect.
Wispy
Instead of using uniform lengths throughout the eye, wispy styling uses different lengths in order to make the lashes appear more textured.
Anime / Manga
This styling uses extremely staggered and varied lengths of short & long lashes. This makes the eyes look more “animated”.
