Importance of Proper Lash Extension Application

March 21, 2023

There are so many horror stories of lash artists destroying their clients’ natural lashes. These lash artists compromise the health of your lashes by going too fast for their technique level and improperly applying lash extensions. This is why going to a reputable, trained, certified and licensed lash artist is so important for the health of your lashes.

What is proper lash extension application?

There is many parts to ensuring proper lash application.

  1. Perfect isolation of a single natural lash - This is extremely important so that the glue does not clump to the other lashes.
  2. The extension is then placed 1mm away from the base of your natural lash. If they are placed too far away, this can put excess pressure on your lashes as the farther the extension is from the base, the more weight is put on the natural lash. This is also why maintenance fills are so important (lash artists also remove outgrown lashes). If they extension is placed too close to the base, then it will just irritate your lash line.

How do I know my lash artist is applying extensions properly?

It can actually be difficult for you to know if your lash artist is applying extensions properly. One possible sign is if they are going too fast. If they are finishing a full set in less than 2 hours or a fill in less than 1 hour it might be a worrying sign. There are a few lash professionals that are able to go that fast without compromising your lashes, but it is not very common. Another possible sign is if your lashes are falling out in clumps. Everyone experiences natural lash fall out, but there should not be multiple natural lashes falling out together.

Properly Removing Your Lashes

Whether you are getting a fill (removing outgrown lashes and replacing them with new extensions) or a full removal, it is important to professional remove them. The lash glue is extremely strong and can cause your lashes to rip off. Please refrain from trying to remove them yourself.

The Consequences

If you go to an untrained lash artist you may experience balding, broken lashes, irritation, heaviness, but the long-term consequences are even more worrisome. The constant trauma to your natural lashes may cause you go to permanently bald.
