If you haven’t had any lash retention issues before and you’re noticing that your lashes are starting to come out sooner than usual, don’t panic! Many clients have experienced this. Here are the most common reasons and how to work around them!
Your Lash Artist
No one’s lash work is perfect. Every lash artist has experienced lash retention issues before, so the first course of action would be to ask your lash artist if they are doing anything differently. They could have changed the products they are using, or maybe they are trying a new technique. It is best to communicate directly with your lash artist to solve any issues that you may be having with your lashes.
Shedding season
It’s spring or fall time! Humans, just like dogs, have parts of the year where hairs shed faster than usual. Unfortunately, the only way to fix this issue would be to shorten the time between fills during these times of year. Since it is your natural hairs that are falling off and not the extensions, there is no other way to fix this issues (given your lash artist covers 90%+ of your natural lashes).
Medications
Some medications can disrupt your natural hair cycle, oil production, hormones, or other things that can potentially affect your lash retention. For example, starting new oral contraceptives can affect hair loss, oil production and your hormones. It is important to discuss this with your lash artist so that they can prepare for this!
Face routine
If you started using any new products with your face routine, try to look at the ingredients. Oil-based products tend to weaken the bond of the adhesive. If you have trouble figuring out if the new products could be affecting your retention, talk to your lash artist about it. They should be able to see if the ingredients will affect retention!
These are just some of the most common things that can affect lash retention. If you’re experiencing any lash retention issues, please contact us our support, or you can ask your lash professional directly!
